At a top boutique is it possible to get a Friday & weekend off if you ask 3+ months in advance?
For people who work in intense groups at BBs or boutiques I know sometimes you guys work 9am - 5am for weeks on end sometimes. I had an associate tell me this at a top MM shop.
But if you either had plans months in advance for either a wedding of your best friend or a long-planned trip is it possible to ask or would this not fly at all and get you dinged for even asking? Is this possible or will all the other analyst/associate shit on you and think you are "weak" for taking 3 days off (Friday + weekend) from work.
Get dinged? So are you interviewing or you talking about taking the trip during a SA stint? Don't ever mention something like that in an interview
Odds are, even if you are approved for a day of leave, you will still be called back to the office if something urgent comes up. As for what others think, you will have three months to pull all-nighters between asking for the day off and taking the day off. If this is a concern, then focus on showing people that you can take some punishment.
Few things in life are certainties; among these, you can count death, taxes, and young bankers overstating how hard they have to work. Now, I can't speak as to the culture in NYC offices, but even out in Asia where everyone supposedly works harder, you can still arrange for a little time outside of the office if there's something really important coming up.
Just bring your laptop with you for when the shit inevitably hits the fan.
It really depends on your staffer. Some groups really respect your vacations, and will re-staff anything urgent on a ad-hoc basis. Other groups will pull you back without a second thought. There's also a lot of variability in how easy it is to SCHEDULE your vacation.
Would never ask for vacation during a SA stint, but unplanned funerals would be accepted universally.
This is a lateral.
lol I did my summer intern stint two summers ago - oh those days. Sigh*
