Avoiding work during notice period

I would like to resign from IB role soon and am hoping to get walked out so I don’t have to get slammed in the office any more. However I was planning to quit with nothing lined up and thus am worried they will make me sweat throughout the notice period - I heard if you tell them you are joining a competitor you are forced to pack your bags day you resign? Has anyone lied about joining a competitor?

If you don't need any reference from the current firm, stick to regular 9 to 5 workday. Not much they can do for working saner hours in your last two weeks. If your employment contract does not prohibit using PTO during notice period, proceed on a vacation/ break. Also, are you sure there is a notice period? This is more a courtesy, as contracts tend to have an at-will clause i.e., they can fire you or you can quit with no notice.
