BB Associate Interview: Should I ask somebody to recommend me?
OK I have a phone interview coming up with a leading BB for an M&A position. I am a recent MBA grad and am currently working in finance (not banking). In my current role I work closely with somebody at this BB (fixed income side) and he has in the past offered to help me if I was ever interested in his BB.
My question is should I ask him to put a good word in for me to my interviewer? Could it help? More importantly could it hurt? This will be my first round interview.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Bump..The interview is coming up and I really need to act now (if I should).
Yes, recommendations matter, even more if he's really to push for you. Absolutely can not hurt.
Yes of course you should seek the recommendation
Thanks dealz and drexelalum11. I have asked my contact and he is glad to put in a strong word for me.
What Ive found in this business is that there is nothing more important than someone's word and reputation. If a senior member is willing to vouche for you it will generally go a long way. People often reco that you should network as much as possible and the young guys generally brush it off as BS but the world of finance is all about relationships.
best of luck to you
