BB / Elite Boutique Summer Internship Chances

I'm a rising sophomore at Northwestern majoring in Economics with a 3.75. I'm part of a fraternity as well as an investment club that's effectively a mini-hedge fund. This summer, I'm interning for a newly established crowdfunded venture capital firm. The internship is sort of bullshit, but I can cook up a story about the valuable experience I gained for interviews.

What are my chances of landing a bulge bracket or elite boutique summer internship next summer? Not necessarily in NYC, I'm open to going pretty much anywhere.

If my chances are dismal, how can I change that? If it's totally impossible, where would you suggest aiming my sights so I'm well poised to break into an elite boutique or BB the summer of my junior year?

Your chances are good, assuming you have On Campus Recruiting and aren't a total weirdo. Without getting too deep into it, don't make the mistake of just sending in your resume online. Reach out to alumni, ask for informational interviews (download M&I guides, they'll walk you thru all you need to know). Talk to as many people as you can and ask good questions, doing this will make or break your chances far more than a few pts on your GPA.

Unless you're a white male, you've got a great shot. Then as far as white males go, you're probably better than a lot of people, but BB is definitely a stretch after sophomore year. Hope your dad has some BB friends.

^but actually, most programs designated for sophomores at major banks are minority-specific... outside of that, they're pretty few and far between
