BB IBD SA Interview this week

Hello,

I am an MBA student and was interviewing for a Summer Associate spot for the IBD at a BB. Murdered my technicals in the first rounds, did well in second round. Had two interviews in the final round, thought I did well in one with a VP, then the second one was with an MD who ended up telling me that my story is great, i have good motivation and that he will be recommending me for internship.

Two days later I get a thanks but no thanks email from HR.

I am not bitter or anything, disappointed of course, but more than anything, really confused.

My plan is to just chalk this one up as a good experience, pick up the email and phone and start hustling again.

What I want to know, is what you all think happened? Would you do any follow up? Any tips on what I should do?

Agree with above poster. Sometimes you get all the right signals, think everything went great, and then don't end up getting the job. Usually it's not something you did wrong; rather, they were slightly more impressed by another candidate(s) and only have limited spots. Such is reality :/

If you felt like everything went well, I would reach out to your interviewer(s) and ask for feedback. If they genuinely enjoyed meeting you, then they very well may give you a couple tips. Incorporate the feedback into your next interviews, wherever they may be, and you'll hopefully land the next opportunity.
