BB IBD San Francisco SA Position
I am curious if anyone has ever been through the recruiting process for a SA position in SF. My main interest is in regards to the volume of SA's that get recruited every year. If I recall correctly, I believe that I read GS has less than 9 SA IBD positions for their SF office. Is this level of difficulty to be expected for all BB firms in SF? Or is the SA recruiting process similar to NY. Thanks
Pretty difficult to recruit for there if you're not from the Bay Area or go to school nearby. Also NY has way more spots than SF.
I am from the Bay Area. Would you consider a Socal School to be "nearby"? I really would prefer not to go to NY as I have 0 relatives there and it would require me to fly across the country to see my relatives. That being said, if it is nearly impossible to get a job in SF, I would be willing to suck it up and go to NY.
I work in SF; we only recruit from schools out here unless you have an internal referral or insane luck.
SF offices mostly take kids from Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA, and sometimes Claremont. Good luck
Ok thanks
I know some Canadian students working at GS/JPM/CS SF so definitely not impossible but I think there was some alumni pull.
Keep in mind that there is a big difference in selectivity between the "top" BBs in SF (MS/GS/JPM/CS) and the others (BAML Palo Alto, Citi, UBS, Barclays come to mind- I don't know if DB even has an office). BAML and Barclays recruited early, but I know UBS was still doing recruitment as of last week and Citi is not finished (a friend is/was interviewing with both). I think this gap in difficulty is considerably wider than the one in NY and I believe it has to do with each bank's MDs/internal focus on what deals that bank wants to be on.
I also know a few people who worked as SAs in the NY office for BBs and then transferred to the SF office, but you really have to pound the pavement to be able to do this successfully.
Ok cool. Thanks for the information
Hilarious considering that Citi jumped the gun this year and had SA superdays first week of October
Wow, I had no idea they started that early. Kind of a rough timeline.
It is harder but possible. A friend did it last summer
