Being connected upwards/

I networked with an analyst at and it went really well and they mentioned they would connect be with a team member (another analyst). They later reached out and said that the MD was really interested in speaking to me (and connected me w the MD). Is this a good sign...I don't really see why else an MD would make time for me. Should i prepare to be interviewed? Or is the only real way of getting a position through the actual interview process....thanks
