From the perspective of doing 2 years in banking and prioritizing exit quality:
- Top M&A/RX (PJT/CVP/EVR) for reps
- TMT (GS/MS/Q) for interesting deals
- FSG (MS/JPM) for culture
Would be different if you want to be a career banker but cannot comment on that
If you’re aiming to be a career banker, how does that change your decision? How would you rank these options? Would you choose a bulge bracket or an elite boutique? And would you prefer a coverage or product group?
Would probably pick a group with precedent for A2A and beyond. HL RX/MOE LA/CVP are all extremely strong examples. Beyond that, BB’s are a solid place to be solely due to the suite of solutions that you can offer clients as you progress; a solely M&A bank would limit your client prospects relative to banks like JPM/BofA that have a balance sheet at their disposal for deal participation. Still, I can’t see why starting your career at any of the top banks/groups mentioned in the original comment would hinder your career rather than propel it. You can start wherever you see fit and move around as you have a clearer picture of what type of work you’d like to work on

Which fsg groups are non-execution? Ik MS/BofA/Wells hold pen on the model but curious about the others
I've heard EVR/JEFF/LAZ/UBS dont model but not 100% sure.
HL FSG is more relationship management, not really IBD tbh
