All IBs use executive recruiters in some capacity. There are two types of recruiters: contingency and retained. Contingency recruiters typically work with analyst and associates. They have large files of resumes that they send into HR and if one of them hits, they get paid.

Retained recruiters typically deal with senior level executives. They are retained by an IB to fill a specific seat. Most of the time when you see a senior banker make a move to a new platform, there is a recruiter.

Global firms, such as the ones you mentioned, have the ability to recruit from the lowest to the highest. Small boutique search firms are usually contingency or retained.

It all matters on the scope of the search being run.
