Best internship for sophomore year
Which of these internships will look best for sophomore year, if I want to do SA at BB/top MM? Wanted to know which one I should pursue most this year.
1) GE FMP Intern 2)Boutique IB SA 3)Fortune 1000 (~950) corporate dev M&A SA
Oh, and I'm from non-target...if that makes a difference.
Thanks.
Which one interests you the most? They would all work for your end goal.
:( This saddens me, do what you like, like what you do. You are a sophomore do what interests you as long as you get an internship.
GE FMP would probably be the toughest to pull off. I don't know how it works at the bottom half of the F1000, but I believe most of the Corp Dev M&A guys at top companies come in after their MBA. Boutique IB would probably be the easiest.
Sophomore summer? or during sophomore fall?
If you want to do CF then go for the GE one, however i heard that they only accept Juniors and Seniors into that program as it results in a full time offer. You are more likely to get into the boutique and it will benefit you the most out of the two remaining options regardless of if you want to do CF or IB when you are out of school.
Do GE if you want to do corp. finance. FMP focuses on controllership, FP&A, operations management, and other general finance/accounting roles. I can guarantee that you will not work with their M&A (which they call BD = business development) or sales teams.
Things to know about the FMP internship: -Chances are you will have to move (they pay for it) -Unless you are recruited for a specific line-of-business' FMP class, you will randomly be placed into a LOB (aim for energy, aviation, or capital as they have the most intensive and highly rated FMP interns) -The actual work you get is easy, just time consuming. -I've interned for both GE and a BB. Be aware that FMP isn't a summer internship, they are really looking for GE lifers
Feel free to pm with any questions on FMP or interning with a BB as I've done both
Thanks guys for replies!
Summer between Soph and Jr year... Future Traders Man..that's weird, because I know people that did GE FMP intern after sophomore year and kept going back for internships untill they graduated.
Also, there have been people from my school that went to do M&A Summer Analyst gig at this Fortune ~900 company after sophomore year.
So...which one do you guys think would be most beneficial for SA recruitment? I'm from non target so..I think it'd be very important to have the best work experience when applying for SA positions.
