Best major for transfer student with limited semesters (math or busi)

Hey guys

Asking for a close friend. Long story short, he will be starting as a transfer student at UNC this summer and is gunning for finance; I am pushing him towards IB.

Originally the plan was for him to apply to Kenan-Flagler and have ample time to complete a dual degree; however we're hearing from the university that he only has four semesters (not including potential summer sessions). The business school requires transfer students to apply after a semester in the general college, which will then knock his time constraint down to finishing the business major in three semesters, which isn't ideal.

He excels in math and the math major requires less coursework for him; I was going to recommend doing math and taking the relevant bschool courses. However back when I was going through recruiting, I noticed that all of my friends who were math, stats, etc. did not get picked up for IB positions; stellar GPAs and it seemed like banks were shying away from them (maybe they were too quanty?)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Is this observation with math majors generally true, or was there just something wrong with the group I noticed it with?

I'm at a semi-target and have not seen any difficulty with math or similar majors getting iBanking internships. Computer science in particular seems to be highly regarded, and a brother in my fraternity just got 3 bulge bracket offers as a math major. I don't see any issue with your friend being a math major.
