Define "City". Do you mean all of London or just "The City"
My general rule of thumb is not to eat steak in London because relative to the US, the steakhouses are crap. That said, there is a half decent place in Chelsea called Sophia's that I got dragged to once and the steak was actually pretty good. It was no Gibson's, but it did the job.
The best and most unique you will ever taste is at The Fat Duck...www.fatduck.co.uk....no lie, 3 Michelin stars, read somewhere it was ranked best in the world by a panel of 500 'experts'

Agreed...having lived all over Europe, it is virtually impossible to get American quality steak in Europe.
Now, South America is can be done and for cheap, but I don't live there. So it's irrelevant.
It is called Sophie's actually. The Notting Grill (Anthony Worral Thomson? I think) is great, and obv Gaucho Grill.
Japanese, gotta hit up Matsuri (St James or Holborn), Roka, Zuma and of course Nobu.
For Italian, think Scalini, Pescatore, Locanda Locatelli, Zafferano, Todo's...
I'm sure I'm must missing plenty, but these are great places to start
