Best Team At Morgan Stanley?

A "friend" has recently received an offer for MS in NYC. Which team is considered the best there?

Is it the M&A or an industry sector team or LevFin eg.

Does this vary across geographies? Ie. Is the best team in HK the same team as the one in NYC or in London for example.

Cheers!

PLEASE search. There are so many threads on this topic and it pains me to see these threads come up every single day. THIS is why people complain about the forum.

In the interest of at least being semi-helpful, MS M&A has long been considered a top group, but given MS's reputation, there probably aren't too many (if any) 'bad' groups. Of course, you need to define 'good' or 'bad' groups yourself. is it exit opps, culture, etc. as these can vary across groups in the same geography.

As a general rule, the best group in NYC is probably different than SF's or Houston partly because of geographic industry reach. Truthfully I cannot comment on groups between NYC and London although I don't understand why you'd want to know. Does it matter?

So first of all Lev Fin at MS is not in the same division or floors as Investment Banking. It sits with the Global Capital Markets team and has a completely separate application process. Unless your friend has two distinct offers, Lev Fin,and Coverage/ M&A are mutually exclusive.

If the offer is for Institutional Securities Group — Investment Banking then M&A is considered to be the most prestigious for the analyst level. They have heavy deal flow, work exclusively on modeling. This comes with some of the longest hours and little to no upper management exposure. That being said, M&A at Morgan Stanley is highly regarded and places into the top Megafunds, MM Funds etc.

I cannot speak to precise coverage groups — but Morgan Stanley is solid all around. They are top 3 in nearly every area.

I don't care who your dad is
