Best way to get a summer job for next year?

So I am working at a very small PE shop this summer and was thinking of starting to network for a placement next summer, hopefully at one of the large banks... somewhere in the capital markets even if it is not investment banking. Does anyone have any tips on how to get in contact with these guys/girls?

Perhaps talking to a specific role (Associate position only) or something like that?

Does anyone at your PE shop have connections? I would start asking the associates (who probably worked in banking before) and some of the more senior guys who have relationships with bankers if they would be willing to put you in touch with some people. A solid referral goes a long way.

I'd also recommend putting together a target list of banks you're interested in and reaching out to alumni there.
