Beyond BBs and elite boutiques in NYC

Could anyone provide (or point me to) a good list of the top 20-30 non-BB banks based on their NYC offices? I'm looking for MM/Foreign Banks/Boutiques/etc.

I've found lists such as the Wikipedia one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Investment_B…) that tell you about all of the banks in the world, but it's hard to know if, despite having a New York office, they only really have a presence in Germany or wherever. With the way the economy is, I want to expand my job search next year beyond the BBs, but I'm not really sure where else would be best to look.

Instead of applying to as many of them as possible, I'd recommend selecting just a few and really putting all your effort into getting an interview with them. Send them emails, call HR, try to get in touch with the higher-ups, even try sending a letter to some of them. (there are a bunch of people who didn't get an interview after applying online but where able to get one through networking/goign directly to higher-ups)

After going through my job-hunting experience, I don't think it's worth the time applying to every single i-bank out there and hoping they select you. You need to show your interest and it won't show if you just apply through their web site. Keep bugging them until they give you that interview. I know some might say that's an annoying way of doing it, but it works. I know a guy who kept calling this i-bank every week for almost a year until they let him interview with them. This is a little extreme but guess what. He got an offer and is now working there.

Good luck!

Thanks T73. To clarify, I am not planning to just shoot out a bunch of resumes into the internet black hole; I'm looking for a target list to actively pursue in much the way you've described. I figure ultimately I'll be able to seriously pursue 10, maybe 15 banks tops, but before I get to that point I should probably start with roughly twice that amount and weed out the ones I don't like. I suppose my list may self-select a bit, as I'll be able to find alumni connections (I'm entering Columbia Business School in the fall) at the stronger NYC banks, but a list of where to start looking/researching would still be helpful.
