Big Four M&A to BB

Hi there,

I am a recent Spanish graduate from a target university in Spain (Universidad Pontificia Comillas - ICADE) who has been working in the M&A department of a Big Four accounting firm for the last 6 months. I have also recently passed the first level of the CFA

My goal is to move to a bulge bracket IB in the short to medium term, either in London or Madrid, and I have some doubts that i hope you could help me with:

  1. Is the move feasible given my background and work experience? Have your heard of anyone who has (successfully or not) attempted a similar move?
  2. Should I apply for a full-time analyst position or an off-cycle position? I have heard that full-time positions are typically reserved for undergraduates

I can only speak to America but yes. That is an entirely plausible route. However, you need to pretty much be a rock star to do that. You need to be able to take away pretty much every other reason why they’d ding you. You’d also have to be willing to do your analyst/associate years at a smaller bank. You can definitely end up at a BB but it may take a lateral or two to get there.

On-cycle analyst roles are almost exclusively meant for people just out of college. If you are looking at analyst roles, “off-cycle” roles would be the ones to look at because, generally speaking, those are roles where they expect you to come in with at least some work experience.
