Trying to get the lay of the land to understand the buy-side a bit more in Toronto and would love any insight.
I know from personal exp the HF space is tiny and shit. AM boutiques, same thing minus a few of the large guys.
VC's a joke.
PE's kind of tiny (correct me if i'm wrong?)
Are the majority of the buy-side ops in Toronto basically lower MM PE and real estate, given how important the asset class is to the entire economy?

Other than LMM PE and VC shops, opps are mostly in private capital, infrastructure, natural resources groups at various pension funds (CPPIB, OTPP, OMERS, etc.). PE shops like Onex does larger deals sometimes (e.g. Westjet deal) but these are rare.
Not too familiar with HF also it's a very different space so not going to comment on that.
Any insight on size / scale of seats at pension funds ?
