BMW internship(?)

Hey guys, Stuck in a weird situation here. I am at a target uni in London but somehow been unsuccessful with my summer applications.

On the other hand i just received a 6 month placement at BMW in USA (though its not finance related). But it starts in June and hence, it will take up my summer. Do you think i should just accept it (since BMW brand name is huge) or should i keep looking for a proper finance summer at the boutiques in UK? Whats worrying me is how are (big name) auto internships regarded in finance and will i be able to spin it appropriately when i am recruiting again next year.

cheers x

Seems like a really cool and fun experience. I'm sure if you have other signals on your resume that show interest in Finance that you will get interviews, coming from a UK target.

If it's the only thing you have, especially in this uncertain environment take it. You will see and learn a lot and most importantly, meet people.

People know people. Some of those said people may be in banking, HF, PE or whatever (ie classmates, relatives, neighbors, friends of said colleagues). They also may be in other cooler fields that you may not know about. A good word from someone trusted often goes much much further than some ridiculous blue chip resume. Why? Because most jobs can be taught and so often the process is one of risk mitigation for the employer (ie. will I/we will this person and be able to deal with them on a daily basis).

You can always go back and spin it for finance later.

Good Luck

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
