Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for converting your BNP Global Markets Spring Week into a summer internship:

  1. Assessment Center Preparation:

    • Expect a mix of technical and behavioral evaluations. For markets roles, technical assessments often include mental math, probability, and basic financial concepts.
    • Practice mental math and quick calculations, as these are commonly tested in markets-related assessments. Resources like Finviz.com and regular market news updates can help you stay sharp.
  2. Math Test:

    • While not explicitly mentioned in the context, math tests are a common feature in markets roles. Brush up on basic arithmetic, percentages, and probability. Open outcry trading games or similar exercises might also be part of the process.
  3. Market Awareness:

    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of current market trends and events. Develop a routine of reviewing key financial news (e.g., WSJ, FT) daily to discuss fluently during interviews or informal chats.
  4. Behavioral and Situational Questions:

    • Prepare for situational judgment tests or video interviews. These might involve ranking responses to scenarios or providing recommendations based on given data. Use frameworks like STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers.
  5. Networking and Follow-Up:

    • Engage with professionals and peers during the Spring Week. Building rapport and following up with thank-you emails can leave a positive impression.
  6. General Tips:

    • Be proactive in asking questions and showing genuine interest in the role and the firm.
    • Practice mock interviews and review common technical questions to ensure you're well-prepared.

Good luck with your conversion process! If you need more specific preparation resources, WSO offers mock interviews and financial modeling bootcamps that could be helpful.

Have two mates that have done it. One converted, the other didn't. There definitely was a maths test last year (apparently they are quite transparent that you need to meet a certain benchmark in it to convert). After that you have interviews. Should be a fairly straightforward conversion if you know your stuff - defo read up on market news etc. The mate that converted googled 'what is global markets' the night before to decide between interviewing for banking or markets so that shld probs give you some indication of the calibre of ppl they are willing to accept for SA. Overall, very convertible as long as you're not a donut.
