I’ve heard conflicting things, are analyst bonuses generally paid out at the beginning of the year or June/July/Aug when it’s closer to a full year after starting? If both are the case, are there two lateral waves every year (one in the early part of the year and another in the summer)?

Analyst bonuses are paid in either of the cycles you mentioned - depends on the firm. There are generally lateral opps after bonuses as that’s when Analysts leave, so yes in March and July / August.
