Boutique 2nd round interview modeling test
Hey guys. I did a search but didn't really find what I was looking for. I know there are people who are gonna bag on me for that...but...
I have the interview on monday. I was notified today that it is going to involve an excel/modeling test that is going to be about 3 hrs long. I know that they are going to give me assumptions and its going to be a three statement model.\
now i've never done a three statement model and they know that.. that being said: what can i expect? someone thats been through one before, your input would be invaluable!
where can I go for a practice or sample?
Appreciate your guys' help!!
is this for full time? Sort of strange they'd ask you to do modeling if you never had experience before.
With that said, I've heard good things about BIWS so you should probably take a look at their modeling guide.
If he's never done modeling I doubt 2 days of BIWS will prepare him.
That being said this is extremely unusual that they are making you work on a model as part of an interview. Not even BB's do this for their FT analyst interviews, much less any boutique...
damn
I had to do a modeling test for a boutique a little while back. Pretty much the same situation as you...the bank knew I did not have prior IB modeling experience and I did not have much time to prepare (one week in my case).
My exam consisted of three years historical financial info for the three statements along with assumptions (revenue growth rate, COGS % revenue, inventory/AP/AR days outstanding, etc). I had to project 3 years of the three financial statements, along with building a simple DCF (did not have to do a WACC calculation, just used an assumption) and the top half of a LBO (transaction assumption, debt assumptions, sources and uses.... no debt and interest schedule, IRR or rebuilding any of the statements).
I did the BIWS Fundamental and it was great. There was nothing on the modeling exam that I was not prepared to do. If all you have to do is project the 3 statements out, there is no reason you can't learn this in 2 days if that is all you do this weekend (16-18 hours a day).
EDIT: I also used this website (see link below) for some additional info and practice, although I still highly recommend BIWS.
