Boutique Bank Recruiting

It is my understand Boutiques do not have a set hire cycle. These shops are small and often do not have options to apply online. How does some nobody without connections get a chance to have apply to these banks, let alone even find them? Is there a list of banks out there for the NYC area?

I personally go on random investment bankers profiles on LinkedIn who are alumni from my school and look at what random boutique investment banks they would have done their internships or first banking experience at. If you see a small boutique bank, click it, save it on a list in excel, then move on to another random person in investment banking and see where they've worked in the past.

Don't reach out, just write down all the banks you haven't seen before and then later when you're ready start reaching out cold to people that work there currently.

"jimjangles52" I graduate in December and will have a 3.5 GPA. Should I reach out to the Boutiques early October or right when I graduate with a higher GPA?

Reach out now. Get on calls, go for coffees, gain information and get your name out there in the community. A 3.5 GPA is not going to stop you. When you graduate you’ll have the higher GPA and relationships on the street - doesn’t that sound better?

Google and WSO. I spent hours and hours looking through lists of firms and searching to see if they take / have taken interns and made a spreadsheet to track firms, deadlines, and who I've applied to.

Adding onto the great advice that above people have given, if your school has a decent OCR and online platform, try playing around with the criteria for the firms that you're targeting. You would be surprised as to how many boutiques are actually on there, as was I when I was looking for boutiques at the time.
