Box of chocolate?

An associate from a bulge bracket firm referred for for an IBD internship and wrote a recommendation for me. I was wondering if I should also send her a box of chocolate along with a thank you note? Would that be appropriate? She has been like a mentor to me.

Not appropriate particularly if you are going to be working with this person.

Now if it's a different firm a hand written thank you letter will be appreciated. In addition, when you finish your stint you can feel free to give thank you gifts, in that case be sure to include everyone or else you'll be making others feel like you didn't like them.

Chocolates are definitely overboard, seems like you really took a liking to this person so simply show gratitude when the timing is right.

You should probably perfume-scent your resume as well.

"There are three ways to make a living in this business: be first, be smarter, or cheat."

Lindt would be preferable over Toblerone for Swiss banks, I presume. Green & Black's is Britain's pride and joy when it comes to chocolate. Avoid Cadbury.

The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.

trazer985Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, otherwise the interviewer has no taste. American chocolate is barely recognisable, and that pretentious 70%+ cocoa stuff is just tryhard.

70+% cocoa is the shit. You just don't know your stuff. I bet you couldn't tell the difference between excellently aged chocolate with strong tannic structure and that run-of-the-mill... wait, what was this about, again?

No, it will make you look desperate not thoughtful. You're not taking your interviewers out for dinner and a movie. What you are trying to do is show them how useful you will be to their company.

Unless you are going for the "bagel guy" position at the firm, in that case, send them all the truck loads of chocolate you want.

Did you fly over my helmet?
