need some help answering this brainteaser for an interview.
You are given a scale and a set of 12 marbles. One of the marbles is a different weight; it may be lighter or heavier than the rest. Identify and discard the different marble using the scale a maximum of 3 times, and determine whether it is heavy or light.

You most likely will not get this question in an interview for two reasons: 1.) Everyone's heard it before. 2.) It takes about 10 minutes to run through all the circumstances, and the explanation often gets very messy
