Lunch with F500 CEO
Recently met the CEO of a major American corporation while waiting to get my car's oil changed at the dealership. Being in finance, was able to recognize him/her right away. They were pleasantly surprised and we chatted for two minutes. Got nervous and cut the convo short (CEO was there with spouse, so felt like I was intruding).
Got home and emailed the CEO right away and basically said "nice meeting earlier and pretty neat that you live in my town-- we should grab lunch sometime."
Believe it or not, did get somewhat of a positive response. Told me to follow up again in a month or two. Not sure if that's genuine or if the hope is that I forget.
Anyway, I saw this morning that the CEO just received a civic award. In your opinion, should I send a quick, personal note of congratulations? Our original email was about a week ago (when we first met). Part of me feels like I would just be clogging their inbox for no reason.
I think it shows commitment on your end to being acquainted with him. Doesn't hurt to give someone props for an accomplishment so I'd say go for it. He may even expedite the lunch to sooner than the timeline he gave :)
