Buying gift cards with food allowance?

Another analyst on my team mentioned that he/ she frequently adds a 10 dollar gift card onto their food purchase at chipotle and similar establishments. It’s definitely against firm policy but said they haven’t had any issue since our company doesn’t request receipts for credit card charges within the dinner allowance amount.. has anyone else done something similar or is this commonplace? It sounds like an unreal hack if its feasible.

Sounds like a really stupid way to get fired. If you want the extra food just use the whole $25, eat what you wanna eat and throw the rest in a fridge/freezer. Stupid idea.

This is a great example of what I call poor man’s logic. You are going to sacrifice a position paying you $200k+ for an additional $10 per meal for yourself at a later date? Even if it’s every single day that you are working in office within the time for dinner allowance expense, that’s still not even $4k over an entire year. Realistically, it’s probably closer to $2k. So let’s jeopardize our future and a position paying $250k for $2k? Poor man’s logic.
