Buying Gifts

hey guys,

Im still a very far ways away from IB, but a friend works at an IB in London and he was telling me about an associate who worked there (a Kuwaiti) with him. What really pissed me off was that this guy was giving really lavish gifts ($10,000+, pretty much gifts nobody else on the team can give except a senior MD to so many people) this past christmas to some of the VPs and even a couple of the MDs he was trying to get close with. Apparently he's an excellent guy overall (top of the bonus pool), but do you find this behavior acceptable? I certainly dont.

He comes from a very (very) wealthy family that has significant influence all over the MENA region, but I still dont see how that excuses all of this.
