Calgary CAD bank vs BB?

Currently an analyst at a BB in Calgary covering the energy sector. After some time on the job, I've realized that I'm looking for more out of this career. At some point, I'd like to lateral to another bank or jump to the buy side in a bigger market (e.g. US (Houston, NY) or London, UK).

Most BBs in Calgary usually wait around for the bigger deals; as a result, I don't have much transaction experience and am worried that I'll have nothing to show when I try to lateral in the future. Wondering if it makes more sense to move to a CAD bank first before trying to lateral elsewhere, as CAD banks usually see more deal flow? What's more important when trying to lateral to another bank in the US/UK? Would it be the BB brand name or the experience?
