Calling it a quits on Canada for the US
Calling it a quits on Canada. Worked in IB and now planning to go do my MBA in the US. Before those comment about whether I plan to do IB with the MBA - motive is to leave Canada entirely. IB salaries are trash in Canada and at this rate corporate dev jobs would pay more than IB here.
Has anyone gone down this path? Looking to leave for good (for immigration, just temporarily and plan to go back home after my OPT expires).
For those who have left how have things changed?
We left Canada and moved to the US. It was the right thing to do for us, more jobs, higher comp, but also higher CoL (in our case).
culture is relatively similar, there are more people to meet, more things to do, (..)
note: we are not Canadians.
I left to do an MBA in the US three years ago. Now work in consulting. The opportunities are so much better here. Not just salary but more interesting companies. Got my H1B this year and don't plan to go back unless it's to start a family.

How has your comp been in consulting in the US, and what was your pre MBA work experience?

Unless you're super wealthy, I think Canada is a better place to raise kids. I actually love Toronto where I grew up and own a condo there.
Noticed you went to Ivey. Why did you go to the MBA route afterwards?
Long story short my career wasn't where I wanted it to be and I was having trouble looking for any respectable jobs in Canada. At a T2 consultancy now.

Buddy. I don’t want things to change there. Like most Canadians who want to move to the US we’re motivated by earning more, and having better opportunities. I couldn’t care less as to how things are and what they should be. Keep that in mind when speaking to Canadians - they’re on the same page.

The stupid ones are. Canadian dream is dead. The country is in hell and I don’t know where it will be in five years. As I said before, the Canadians who move to the US are as conservative as the bible thumping gun lovers you have down in the Bible Belt.
