Would Cambridge land economy or LSE economics & politics be better for placing in FO IB? Assuming candidate quality, work experience etc is the same for both.

Barely any difference whatsoever. LSE would be a more motivating environment for IB recruiting but I guess at Cambridge you might meet more connected people. Very marginal though. Cambridge also slightly better for buy-side recruiting out of undergrad.
In short if you can't break in from either of them you wouldn't have anyway.
