Can you be recruited directly into a specific group for SA?
I'm speaking strictly for BBs since I know EBs recruit SAs into either M&A or RX (except Laz).
In most BBs you get recruited for the general IB SA class, in which you then get placed into a group based on your preference and the groups' preferences. I was just wondering if there are cases where you would interview and recruit for a specific group (say FIG or NatRes) INSTEAD OF interviewing for the general IB class and then getting placed into a group. I know this occurs for Full-time recruiting but does it also occur for SA recruiting?
Just to provide some context, I ask this question because I know an MD in the FIG/NatRes group extremely well, and was wondering if I could possibly get recruited for SA directly into that group instead of going through the general IB recruiting process via OCR.
From what I've seen, the only way you can recruit for a specific group as an SA is if you've already summered your sophomore year and are just switching groups. In that case, you have already been vetted for IBD the summer before though. So I am going to say no. You have to interview for the general division.
