Can you do this if you're not happy?
I'm a sophomore recruiting for IB right now. Last fall I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety by a mental health professional. I've had depression since most of my early teens, just had never gone to anyone. I don't go to therapy or take meds. I know this takes a toll on people, is there anyone on here who had mental health issues before going into IB and did it anyways? Curious to hear anyone thoughts
No matter what job you do, it will be beneficial to find out a way to overcome these issues (therapy, medication, “working on yourself,” etc.) Banking is stressful, but so are many other jobs/situations in the real world. A lot of people have struggled with mental health issues, and most would agree you can’t sweep them under the rug forever. You can definitely do IB, but would imagine getting the proper treatment for your illness will make it a better experience.
Is there a reason you don’t do therapy or take medication? Just curious
For medication, I worry about side effects. Mostly sexual side effects. For therapy, it is very hard for me to put my thoughts and feelings into words for someone like that. I went to therapy a few times but I didn't find it effective at all honestly. I know it takes time to find a therapist you connect with but I never really went far down that road.
