Can you do well on a case competition with teammates working remotely?

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have signed up for the Asian Investment Banking Conference this year in HK where HSBC is sponsoring both the conference and the associated case competitions. My classmates and I have been planning to compete in a team of 4 but they had to drop out due to personal reasons. I still want to participate in the case and thought about reaching out to the other delegates, but most of them that have already been accepted are not in my area of Toronto, Canada.

My question to you guys is, can good work on a case like this be done with remote teammates? I have participated in cases before but they were local and my team & I would meet in person whenever we could to go over our material.

If I'm reaching and remote work is not feasible, can someone suggest a way to find teammates that are more local? Aside from the obvious university FB groups as I have already tried that.

Thanks in advance for all your help.
