Canadian Target - Having a hard time finding a sophomore internship

Hi,

here is a little summary of my situation : I'm 25 years old, located in Montreal, have a university certificate (which is a one year diploma, 30 credits) in Civil Law (with focus on business law and contracts) and am currently a sophomore at a Canadian "target" (top 3). Major in Finance + Concentration/Minor in Accounting. 4.0 GPA. I have a lot of prior work experience (mainly working in retail sales, but also in management), which is not really relevant at all. I currently work part-time while going to university to sustain myself. (I am willing to go more into detail about the experience over PM but feel uncomfortable sharing it publicly)

Because I'm "older", Canadian and a non-typical applicant, I want to maximize my chances of getting an internship for summer 2018 by getting an internship for summer 2017.

My school has great OCR, and it seems like getting my junior internship won't really be a problem but ALL of the Investment Banking Summer Analyst positions posted REQUIRE that you graduate at the latest in Spring 2018.

Should I still apply ? I'm worried applying while not fitting the required criteria will impact my chances of getting an junior internship. What other type of internship could possibly be relevant to what I intend to do ? Does work experience (even if it's an unrelated field) help my chances of getting a junior internship if I'm unable to get a sophomore internship ?

Thank you all for your help.
