Citi Interview: Why Citi/etc

I'm interviewing with Citi soon, so any suggestions for some good points that can differentiate Citi from other banks? Like "Why Citi and not X"?

I'm also interested to know more about the divestiture of legacy franchises that is going on in Citi.

Thanks a lot!

The EQ on this forum is so fucking low. This is literally the easiest question they'll throw at you.

Steps to answering this question for any BB or EB:

1) One sentence explaining rationale for "why I knew I wanted to work at a BB" (wide variety of deals, bundling of services for more value to client etc) or EB (less bureaucratic, faster pace with higher learning curve, literally anything just don't mention $$).

2) Now emphasize why firm X. Specifically mention the people you've enjoyed meeting and a recent deal firm X has worked on. "Out of all the BB banks I networked with, I connected well with persons A/B/C and could see myself working well with them. Firm X's _______ team is top of the street. I've been following deal Z and would love to work on something similar for you guys". They may even interrupt you to ask about the deal. Extra points for you if you're prepared.

3) Optional. Mention anything specific about the group just to show you've done your homework. GS coverage does M&A inhouse, half of American companies have a BofA account, if you're diverse then talk about representation with Citi's CEO/CFO etc.

Short answer: Give a generic answer for why BB, talk about the people you've met at Citi and a deal the team you're recruiting for has worked on.
