Citi London Group Structure

Hi guys,

I'll be interning at Citi IBD this summer and will have my team selection process soon. I'm curious about the way the teams are set up - there are country coverage, industry coverage and product teams. Does anyone know how deal origination happens when one deal can technically be covered by all three teams?

For example, if a deal originates in the Middle East and is a TMT M&A deal, who will 'own' the relationship in this case? The country coverage team (Middle East/Emerging Markets) or TMT coverage? When will the M&A group get involved (I initially thought modelling was done by the sector teams)? I guess the broader question is how they all tie together (if they even do) on a single deal.

I'm going into the selection process with an open mind, but want to be exposed to a good deal of modelling if I can help it, so it'd be nice to know which teams are responsible for what.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on the MD who sourced the deal and covers the company. Now in the case of TMT they're brainlets so I'm pretty sure they have to outsource M&A modelling to the M&A team although modelling is usually done by the sector teams.
