Cold Email Situation

So I recently cold emailed an MD asking to chat sometime but he asked one of his summer interns to talk with me instead. He also asked for my resume.

I'm sure he knows that I'm going for an internship at his firm, but should I ask to talk to him as well after I talk to the intern (if so, how?)? What are the next steps from here? What should I be talking to the intern about?

I'm pretty new to this - thanks so much in advance!

Leave a good impression with the summer intern and ask questions about the firm, things he’s working on etc. Then ask if you could talk to an associate or even VP and ask different questions like what kind of person performs well as an intern etc. Then maybe ask to speak to the MD but have well thought out questions.
