Compliance Question: Can I Keep the Delayed Bonus Paid to Me by My Old Broker/Dealer Despite Being Registered Under a New Firm?

  • I worked for a bank until February 2022
  • Bonuses at that bank, which I was at the time registered under, were supposed to be paid in January
  • Boss didn't have money so our bonuses got delayed
  • Junior all left
  • Boss finally paid out our bonuses, but at this point I work for a separate broker/dealer company that I am registered under

Does anyone have any advice on how I can explain this to my compliance department in a way that minimizes the risk of them telling me I cannot accept the bonus? I feel like it shouldn't be an issue. The bonus wasn't directly tied to any commission/profit splitting and I haven't done any work for the old firm since leaving. The boss was just an unorganized guy and waited really long to pay bonuses. Must we file this as an outside business activity or something? Please someone tell me I'm not going to have to give it back?
