Concerns with Athletics conflicting with Internship
Hey everyone, this is my first post on WSO but I read around and a lot of the posts are very helpful, so thank you! I play D1 football and I'm currently prepping and networking for an IB SA spot for next summer. I was able to find an internship for this summer and the firm was really flexible with my schedule and my coach let me take the summer, before mandatory camp, off. I'm wondering if anyone has ever heard of IB firms accommodating athletes, or anyone for that matter when it comes to potentially leaving early? I'd love to hear any advice and also alternatives I could consider, thanks!
It really depends on the firm. Talk to them and ask if they are able and willing to accommodate your schedule. I have had internships that were during the school year and they were very flexible with my class schedule or if I needed some time to study for exams. Again, it really depends on the firm.
Hey, thanks for the reply! A follow-up question is, when should I go about telling the firm? Right away or after receiving an offer?
Waiting until you have the offer is in your best interest. If they are not willing to accommodate they could just not give you an offer.
Think it is case by case but at my firm last year one of my other interns was a D1 player as well and they let him off a week earlier than anyone else and there were no consequences or anything like that.
