Connections

I am a student at a nontarget school for IB and have been taking a rather unconventional approach to reaching out, being cold calling. I came here to ask for thoughts on this approach to building connections. My logic behind it is that when I reach out to people on LinkedIn, email, or even apply for an internship, I feel like I'm just throwing myself into the abyss and never getting responses. The only problem I see with cold calling is that it has the potential to be quite intrusive, so I just wanted to get some secondary opinions from people in the industry on the other end of these calls.
