Corp. Development & Strategy Exit Opps
How easy is it to go back to banking after Corp. Development & Strategy role? Is PE on the table at all from these type of roles?
I am 1-year into my current role and was invited to interview for a Corp. Development role which sounds much more relaxed and still fairly interesting, albeit at a fair salary haircut.
Not hard at all with 1 year of experience. At my bank there are a number of people who have “boomeranged”
Another question that I think you may be interested in:
What effect does a stint in corp dev have on promotion timeline upon return?
For example, my understanding is that leaving after one year of IB as an analyst working in CorpDev for 5 years (senior analyst to associate to manager level let’s say) and coming back to IB definitely won’t mean that you can return as a VP, compared to any peers who went six years straight through for example.
However, would that mean you can join back as an experienced/ senior associate (ASO2/3 as opposed to ASO 0/1)?
I understand this could be a case-by-case basis, but I feel like this would help the discussion move forward
Yes you can go back to IB as an associate from corp dev from what I have seen, namely if it’s related to your company
Bang on, much more relaxed but haircut.
Not sure about NY, I live in a tier 2 city and local pension funds and MM teams will at least send the case across, provided you work for a reputable firm. Lateral to a bigger firm is also an option.
A question for bankers: I am a corp dev guy who never did banking. My company is publicly traded and work with most of the BB/EB. How do you guys view my profile? Would I be able to lateral to IB on the same level? If so, how should I go about asking for a job?
Thanks for asking this question. I know I 'm a bit late here, but for others that may look at this post - I think having CD experience is very helpful and relevant to banking, especially if you have actually done deals.
