Corporate broking exit opps

What kind of exits are possible for a 1st year associate in UK Corporate Broking team at a London BB?

Thinking the most natural options are probably:
- investor relations
- in-house strategy
- long only investing

What would it take to ultimately end up in a long-only?

I've done a bit of corporate broking and have tended (perhaps a contrarian view) to actually quite enjoy it - you'll know more than me but it is very dependent on the nature of the client and how they use the broker/(s) and whether you are being retained as a holistic strategic adviser and with revenue streams down the line or whether you're just there to handle their IR calendar and having a lot of 'mundane' tasks being outsourced to the brokers. I've seen some banks be corporate broker for 5-10 years where they've had zero fee opportunities and ultimately resign out of frustration.

I'd imagine IR is the most feasible exit in terms of skill-set and understanding, more likely in-house at a large strategic. Not sure on LO investing but best of luck!
