Corporate Credit at an Investment Bank
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had insight on working in corporate credit at an investment bank? I looking at an opportunity as a Summer Analyst Intern at a reputable EB investment bank.
I am totally new to this, what exactly does Corporate credit do and differences to private credit?
How does lifestyle / comp / career progression compare to other fields in finance, would this be a good place to start? Potential exit ops in PE, HF, etc?
Can’t find much about this online so asking here.
Corporate credit at an investment bank typically involves analyzing and managing the credit risk of corporate clients. This includes underwriting loans, assessing creditworthiness, and structuring financing solutions. Here's a breakdown based on the most helpful WSO content:

Exit Opportunities
Corporate credit provides a solid foundation for various exit opportunities: 1. Private Credit Funds: Ares, Apollo, KKR, and Oaktree are common destinations for those with corporate credit experience. 2. Private Equity: While not a traditional exit, transitioning to PE is possible, especially if you move into investment banking first. 3. Corporate Development: Your understanding of capital structures and financing can be valuable in corporate strategy roles. 4. Treasury or CFO Roles: At senior levels, exits to corporate treasury or CFO positions are common. 5. Other Banks or B-School: Many professionals leverage their experience to transition to other banks or pursue an MBA for career changes.
Is This a Good Place to Start?
Yes, starting in corporate credit at a reputable investment bank can be a great foundation. You'll gain valuable skills in credit analysis, risk management, and capital structure, which are transferable to many areas in finance. If you're interested in debt investing or credit-focused roles, this is an excellent entry point.
