Cover Letter Help
Say I am applying to a position via a job website or forum. There is no reference of a contact and there is no way to tell who is the point person. How do I address my cover letter? To whom it my concern? Dear employer? I hate using these crappy ass lines but its all I can think of right now.
I know you can often look for the head recruiter, but what if that can't even be found.
How would you propose addressing a cover letter if you can't find contact details. Thanks.
If you can't find an actual name to address the letter to, then it is perfectly acceptable to address it as, Dear sir/madam of xx department, or even leave off the opening entirely. Instead of saying To whom it may concern, just jump right into the letter by introducing yourself, etc. It's one of those awkward things that are no big deal unless you make it one - so don't even sweat it, and go with what feels best to you.

Call them. Ask for the head recruiter, or, if you don't want to guess, simply ask who you should address your cover letter to/who's going to receive it. I've never found any problems with this, and getting the real name is a LOT better than the general 'to whom it may concern'. In fact, if you really can't get his name (always try), I would go with BoB's advice and simply not include a header at all.
I'm in a similar position. If you can't get a name would it sound alright to use "Hiring Professionals,"
