Creation of LinkedIn Account

As someone who has never created a LinkedIn account before.....is there anything I should know regarding LinkedIn and investment banking specifically?

Any unwritten rules I wouldn't find out about until it's already too late?

Basically,

1: Have a good photo
2: Keep your descriptions/summary concise and impactful (just like resume writing)
3: DON'T SAY ANYTHING STUPID

Is it necessary to have a former employer provide a recommendation?

All opinions are appreciated.

Copy the formats of individuals who are already in the position you are after. You are a prospective intern therefore I suggest that you dig through IB analyst and summer analyst profiles.

Recommendations are great (not necessary) as long as they add value. College professor or manager > college bud. They should speak to your teamwork & analytical strengths, qualities banks are looking for.

Join a few professional groups. Following every BB bank's LinkedIn page is as effective as liking their FB page.

Looks like you have it down; recs are not necessary.

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA
