Current EB group has poor deal flow - should I try and lateral for PE recruiting?

Hi all,

I'm a first-year analyst at an EB in a group with weak deal flow, and as a result, am starting to get nervous about having an empty resume for PE recruiting. So far, I have primarily worked on general marketing books and lost pitches. If recruiting kicked off in January, I'm not sure I would have any real deal experience to talk through.

Historically, my group has placed well into UMM funds, which is what I'm targetting.

My questions are:

  1. How much will poor deal experience hurt me in PE recruiting (targetting UMM buyout)?
  2. Would it be worth it to lateral to a similar caliber bank with better deal flow or would that not be worth it assuming recruiting kicks off in the next few months?

Any advice from those who have been in a similar position would be greatly appreciated. Happy to provide more context on the situation / my motives as needed. Thanks!

In a similar position and haven’t worked on anything live. would people recommend talking about internship deals?
