DCM / ECM Networking Calls

This may seem like a stupid question, but I am just going to ask it anyways. I have done most of my networking for S&T and AM but am switching gears towards Capital Markets. Was wondering what questions are appropriate for CM calls? Is it similar to S&T like "what are you following in the market?" or "what do you think about xyz event?" Could not find much online about this other than the typical "can you tell me about what the role is like/day in the life?" Thanks.

Find IPOs / follow ons for companies you find interesting and ask about that. Usually questions I get are "day to day for someone at your level during an IPO?" "Process for an deal?" Plus the usual market questions. Keep in mind most people on ECM cover just one sector so, dont go asking a healthcare ECM analyst his thoughts on a consumer deal he probably didn't even know happened.

That’s fine, Bloomberg and WSJ have all the info you need. IPO market is very slow right now and Bausch & Lomb and ProFrac pricing $3 below the range doesn’t help. A majority of 2021 ipos are trading below offer price and the best performing sector of 2022 is Energy (up ~40%) followed by utilities (flat)

Depending on the bank, you can ask what type of deal they enjoy working on (IPOs, FOs, blocks, etc) and what their favorite deal they’ve worked on has been.

If you’re interested in a specific sector, let me know and I can list some recent deals off in the space and you can go google them.
