Debt Advisory to M&A (UK Job Market)
Has anyone successfully moved from debt advisory to M&A? I've worked in debt advisory for 3 years, working for a mid-market PE fund and a boutique advisory. Due to my recent company going into liquidation, I'm looking to take this as an opportunity to move into M&A.
I thought the jump wouldn't be difficult initially since they require similar skills and have a similar process (pitching, modelling, negotiations, due diligence, etc.) and given that I have worked alongside M&A teams and executed some high-profile transactions (which I've materially been involved with the end to end process). However, I'm struggling to land any interviews.
Has anyone been through similar experiences and can provide suggestions?
Market's not great and you're at a disadvantage with no direct M&A experience. I'd aim for Debt Advisory at a LMM/MM bank and try and move internally. You'll probs have to be prepared for going in at an Analyst level if you're determined to get in for M&A to begin with. Just my two cents as a few friends I know did the exact same thing!
Thanks. I just cbf to do more debt advisory. The last role, in particular, showed me the issues of working in MM in that field. I think it's pointless to waste time on a role I have lost motivation for.
