December/New Year Hiring

Do any banks/consulting firms routinely hire a small batch in December/January to take advantage of new graduates, fill in any gaps, or prepare for a new year? Is this a particular time of off-cycle hiring at others?

Smaller banks might... Larger banks typically won't unless they have a pressing need to fill open slots (which is not likely in the present climate). They sometimes have candidates who interview earlier in the fall start early because they graduate off cycle (I did, but I started early by choice).
