Decided on finance late - do I have any shot at SA 2021 internships?

I'll be a junior this coming school year, and I'm trying to figure out how to navigate this recruiting season. I have some pretty substantial nonprofit experience - state-level management, directorship at a new charity, and extensive fundraising/development, but I'm new to finance. I'm sitting on a 3.9+ GPA from a semi-target, taken one corporate finance course so far, and I'm starting the bulk of my Business/Finance classes in the fall. I've been studying up on technical knowledge outside of school, but I didn't expect this recruiting season to come so early. I've gone ahead and applied at some bigger independent firms with deadlines coming up at the end of the month, but from what I've seen here it sounds like I needed to make contact with them on campus earlier this semester before everything went remote. For the others, am I better off submitting applications now or waiting until the school year starts to try and get in on campus recruitment?
